Father's Day!

I think everyday should be Father's Day in the Garvin house. Mostly because Cameron is the best father around! At least in this Mommy's opinion! I always knew Cameron would be an amazing father because he is an amazing husband. As a wife and mother, nothing makes me happier than how Reese's eyes light up when he sees his Daddy and the smile Cameron gets when that sweet baby looks at him. Cameron loves being with Reese and doing things for him. He is not afraid to change a dirty diaper, wipe up some spit-up, or wipe a snotty nose. But he also loves bath-time, bedtime stories, and even waking up with him in the mornings. He will be a wonderful example to Reese as to what a husband and father should be and for that I am grateful. I look forward to celebrating many more Father's Days with the man I love, my best friend, and the father of my son (and God willing, one more child in the future!).

Cameron had a wonderful first Father's Day last weekend. Should be no surprise because he is a wonderful father. We spent the morning together and headed to church. We had Reese all dressed up in a super cute outfit and as soon as we got him strapped in...bleeehhhh...spit-up everywhere!! No big deal. We just changed him into another cute outfit (he has plenty!). After church we had lunch with my dad. Then we headed to Cochran to have some time with Cameron's step-dad and grandfather. And we rounded out the afternoon with an early supper at Cameron's dad's. Over-all it was a busy, but very good day! I gave Cameron a couple of books from me and Reese and then a beautiful framed piece that had Reese's birthdate and a picture of Reese. My friend at http://www.framethedate.com/ did it and it turned out wonderfully! Here are a few pictures of the morning!

Bath Time!

Reese is loving his bath more and more. We still bathe him in the baby tub. As long as he's not making too big of a mess we'll do it there because he's easier to get to! He looooves his rubber ducky and as soon as he sees it he reaches for it and in the mouth it goes. He still doesn't like water running down his face, but he's getting less whiney about that. Here are some pictures I took with my phone (hence the blurriness)...he's too cute!

Yucky bath water on my face!

One of his latest faces...the scruntchy nose!

This one's from awhile back, but he does love his rubber ducky!

Drool Machine

Reese has become a huge drool machine lately. He is chewing on everything and giving wet, slobbery sugars most of the time. He still does not, however, have any teeth. I'm kinda dreading when they do actually pop through cuz he'll probably get multiples at one time. Such is life, I guess!

First Trip to the Beach!

Memorial Day weekend is kind of a special time for Cameron and me. We got engaged that weekend four years ago. So, it was fitting that our first trip to the beach as a family was that same weekend. We went to Jekyll Island for three nights. Cameron's parents and brother were there, too. My sister got to come up from Jacksonville for the day on Sunday. Needless to say she was happy to get some sugar from her favorite little nephew! Overall it was a great weekend. I have recently heard that when you go on vacation, it's more of a relocation because of all the crap you have to take. That is so true!! There is so much that you need in order to keep a baby occupied and happy. We actually had to borrow my parents SUV to fit everything. I can't imagine what we're going to do when we have to be gone for a whole week!!

Reese did very well for his first real time away from home. We were able to go out to dinner both Saturday and Sunday and he did great! We went early, which was nice because we didn't have to wait for a table. But he still got to bed later than normal, but he managed like a pro! The first night was rough because he wasn't used to sleeping in his pack n' play and he kept waking up. Poor Cameron got up with him at 5:30 and never got him back to sleep so he was a sleepy Daddy all day. The second night was much better and by the third night, it was though he were sleeping in his own room. Now, the car ride...that was a whole different beast. Reese did not care for the 4 hour drive. He slept a total of 1 hour and whined the rest of the way...there and back. It doesn't not give me much hope for our other beach trips because they are even further away. He didn't care too much for the sand (but he didn't try to eat it, which shocked me because everything these days goes in the mouth) or the ocean either. I think the noise of the waves might have scared him. However, he LOVED the pool. He was so cute splashing around! We're definitely going to be taking him to G-Mommie and Ma-Ma's pools a lot this summer. Here are some pics from the weekend!

Sittin' on the beach!

Not so sure about this sand stuff!

Reese's Christening

A few weeks ago we had Reese baptised. As is traditional in the United Methodist Church, babies are baptised and promised to be raised in the church by their parents. After the child makes their own decision to follow Christ, he is confirmed. My sister and I were both baptised in this church, as was my father and possibly my grandmother. It was a very special day for our family. Brother Jim Hamlin, who conducted our wedding ceremony, performed the christening. Our pastor, Ellis, had to be out of town due to a death in the family, so it was appropriate the Bro Jim was there to step in. After the service we had a nice brunch and got to spend some good time with our wonderful families!

Future Dentist?

If genetics were a factor in what your career was gonna be, Reese would have a pretty strong predilection for dentistry! He's already showing an interest in teeth, although he has none himself. However, he's really only ever interested in Daddy's teeth...should I be offended?!

Crazy 8!

Dear Reese,

Wow! You are 8 months old now! Sorry this is a little behind, but we were out of town when you turned 8 months old. We took your first trip to the beach. But more on that another time. You have grown and changed so much that I feel like I should do weekly updates just to keep up with you. You are growing too fast for Mommy and Daddy! But you are getting to a really fun age now where you are really curious about everything and trying so hard to learn and understand things. You are sleeping so great and typically sleep from about 7:30 until 6:45-7 the next morning. Sometimes you'll wake up in the night and talk a little while but then go back to sleep. You are usually taking two really good naps of at least an hour twice a day. Sometimes you take a good 1.5 hr morning nap and then two 30 minute catnaps later. You are such a happy baby all the time. We get comments on how sweet and happy you are and people wonder if you are like that all the time. The answer is YES!! You are such a sweet natured little boy with a streak of stubborn. But that streak only comes out when you're tired, hungry, or bored.

Your appetite is still as huge as ever. You can easily eat three containers of stage 1 food with a tablespoon of rice cereal three times a day. So far you are liking everything much more than you did at first, except for peas. I've tried to give them to you several times and you just aren't feeling it! You get four bottles a day and eat baby food three times a day. We also started giving you puffs on occasion, but you haven't quite figured those out yet.

You are crawling a little bit, but are still trying to get steady on your knees. You'll go a few "steps" and then sprawl out on the floor. You get where you wanna go, but mostly do it by scooting. Reese you are pulling up on things and have started pulling to standing a couple of weeks ago. You get so excited when you discover something new you can do. You really like climbing on people. If I sit down on the floor near you, you will scooch over and start pulling up on me. You are also getting really good at giving sugar. You don't do it every time you are asked, but you are doing it more often than not. It's very sweet!

Reese, you are getting so much hair and it looks like it's gonna be reddish/brown and wavy. Your eyes are brown (you get those and the wavy hair from Daddy...otherwise, you are still your Mama's child!). You have officially moved into Cruisers size 3 diapers and are mostly wearing 6-9 month clothes. You probably weigh about 20lbs, but we will get an official weight when you go to the doctor next month. As always, you continue to bring so much joy to our lives and we love you very much!!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy
